Premise- Camp counselors have a tremendous leadership responsibility-- to the young people they work with, to their camp and to their fellow counselors. As teachers, mentors, employees and colleagues their daily challenges can be daunting and for many this may be one of their first ventures into such a demanding level of responsibility.
Primary Goal- The main focus of CAMP is developing confident and compassionate leaders that recognize the demands and value of their job and are equipped with the tools to be skillful and inspirational leaders to their campers and among their peers.
Secondary Goals- Learning how to develop group unity, group dynamics, activity processing and facilitation, developing espirit de corps among staff members, outdoor skills, minimum impact awareness, basic first aid/CPR, hazing/bullying awareness, alcohol abuse, problem solving, group initiatives, understanding the scope of responsibility, developing a sense of team among the staff, understanding specific camp emergency protocols, fun.
Program Location- CAMP is typically conducted at each specific camp's facility. Team ALP provides all technical and specialty gear not otherwise available on site.
Program Length- CAMP programs are either two or three full days/evenings. The main difference between CAMP 2 (two days) and CAMP 3 (three days) is the addition of Basic First Aid certification. CAMP 2 does provide first aid instruction, but because of time constraints cannot include actual certification. A pre-program consultation with camp management as well as post program summation are included in the program fee.
Leaders- CAMP programs are under the direction of one or more Team ALP Founders assisted by a variety of professional outdoor adventure and camp leaders. Leaders provide skill development and meaningful reflection as the variety of adventure activities are related to real world camp and life situations.
What's Included- Pre-program consultation with camp directors to fine tune the CAMP program to fit the specific needs and policies of the camp; appropriate number of Team ALP leaders (approximately 2 leaders per 10 staff); resource and course materials and certification costs as required; post-program consultation with camp leadership to discuss specifics of what occurred during the course of the programs..
Fun- CAMP is an intensive program with a lot of group activity and information.......due to the amount of information to be covered there is very little downtime-- which does in fact simulate the pace to be expected during the camp session. The CAMP program itself is fun and engaging with very little lecture or classroom time.
Cost-Contact Team ALP for a specific quote. Rates depend on group size and location but generally run between $125- $250 for CAMP 2 and CAMP 3. The host camp typically provides meals and lodging for Team ALP staff as part of the program fee.
