FAQ

Where do programs take place?

Team ALP programs are held at some of the top outdoor adventure destinations in Texas and Colorado. We typically use locations within a few hours drive of the groups hometown. Program sites typically have comfortable rustic accommodations, showers and a group gathering/cooking area. All locations have access to backcountry terrain, trails, and generally a mix of rock climbing, high elements and a stream or lake. Current program sites include Camp Eagle in the Texas Hill Country and the Outpost Wilderness Adventure Base Camp in the Tarryall Mountains of Colorado. CAMP programs are held onsite at each respective camp facility.

How's the food?

Our groups are busy and everyone will burn a lot of calories. We provide a lot of food, albeit simple and nutritious. The quality of the meals falls on the group-- participants are grouped into teams that do all the cooking and clean up.

How physically demanding are the programs?

Our programs are active outdoor programs that take place in the real and sometimes remote outdoors. Participants in normal physical condition should have no real physical problem other than getting tired. We make every effort to accommodate special needs participants.

Who are the leaders?

Programs are under the direction of experienced and trained outdoor adventure guides and leaders, outdoor educators and camp professionals. Typically two or more of the Team ALP founders are in charge of each program. For each program at least one staff member has a minimum of Advanced Wilderness First Aid certification. Our leaders are chosen both for their hard skill competence and their ability to inspire and lead effectively.

Is this a religious program?

While Team ALP is not affiliated with any particular religion or denomination a strong belief in the power of the Golden Rule permeates through everything we do. Treating others the way you want or hope to be treated is at the center of virtually every religious belief known to humanity and we consider it the moral foundation for each of our programs.

What size groups do you work with?

The ideal group size for single CORE programs is up to 40 participants. Larger groups can be accommodated by splitting into smaller groups for some activities. The Great Expedition is best accomplished with small subgroups of up to 15 which can be duplicated to effectively accommodate a larger group of up to 60. CAMP programs are designed to accommodate the full staff at each respective camp.

How safe are the programs?

We are the first to acknowledge that nothing in life is truly "safe". And being physically active in remote locations makes our programs all the more challenging from a safety standpoint. But we make every effort to manage our programs with the well being of our participants at the top of our list of concerns. Our activities are challenging, but realistic. We understand that our message is clearest when everyone has a good time and stays healthy.
