CORE stands for Compassionate, Observant, Responsible and Exceptional Leaders. The program is focused on "unleashing the leader within" and creating the confidence and willingness to face challenges head-on. An increasingly intricate series of group adventure initiatives and skill development culminates in a major mock scenario which puts everything learned into play. As an example, scenarios may include such situations as search and rescue operations with specific skill development in extrication, first aid, communication, group organization and chain of command, route finding, belaying, technical climbing and problem solving.

Camp counselors face the daunting challenge of inspiring, leading and being responsible for young campers 24/7. The job requires hard skills, maturity and a multitude of other personal qualities. CAMP programs work to broaden the skill set of each counselor and help them understand their specific responsibilities to the campers, the camp itself, parents, peers and themselves.

CAMP programs take place at the specific camp facility, often as a part of staff training or subsequent staff development. The program utilizes a mix of adventure activities, group initiatives and mock emergency scenarios that provide hands-on practical learning combined with provocative insights into the true meaning of being a leader. Activities and scenarios are specifically related to real world camp situations and tailored to the culture and policies of each camp.

Undoubtedly, the transition from middle school to high school is challenging for the majority of young people. Social, emotional, mental and physical changes constantly ebb and flow throughout this transition period creating a confusing array of challenges and opportunities that are best confronted with some degree of recognition of what is going on, a willingness and ability to communicate with peers and parents, the establishment of a positive support group or groups and the personal confidence to take charge of personal decisions and actions.
The NEXT Expedition brings together a small unique group of individuals with varying interests and backgrounds and creates a model unified team working together in a backcountry mountain expedition setting to better understand how positive groups function and to develop personal group and leadership skills.

Growing up is all about change. The transition from middle school to high school certainly presents some of the more profound changes and challenges faced by young people today. Confronting those challenges is not unlike joining in on a major expedition seeking answers and striving toward a common goal with a large dose of the unexpected thrown in to confuse matters.

The Great Expedition combines outdoor and team skill development with a real backcountry expedition with specific goals and dynamics that only expeditions can provide in a short time frame. Groups can expect a whole lot of living crammed into a few intensive and fun days in some of our favorite adventure locales.
